Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

How do I remove water after sewer backup?

Actions to take after a sewer back up.

  1. Be safe and do not try and clean up the mess yourself. Sewer water is highly contaminated.
  2. Call a licensed restoration contractor to get on site and start assessing the situation.
  3. Call your insurance company. SERVPRO can talk with the adjuster to help determine the reasons for the backup.
  4. Find a licensed plumber to repair the reason for the backup.

The cleaning of a sewage backup can be very invasive. Any materials that had soaked up water would have to be removed as in these two pictures. The carpet, pad, and some of the drywall had to be removed. Then the flooring was cleaned and disinfected.
